Every day of his life, Teddy strived to be the best son, brother, friend, teammate, co-worker he could be. Family and friends have started his fund to honor his spirit of determination and care for others. Our goal to create Teddy’s legacy is to raise money through his fund for local San Mateo County/San Francisco Peninsula Organizations working in mental health for young people, SafeSpace in Menlo Park and the San Mateo County Chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. We know and have become friends with the wonderful people who run these organizations. As we embark on our goal to help them, we will stay close and involved with their great work and, hopefully, create a partnership with them for years to come. They will join us in the events we plan to hold. We describe
each of the organizations below.
As part of our fundraising we are starting a home and home annual rugby match between Boston College – where Teddy played and was the MVP selected by his teammates – and St. Marys College where Teddy’s brother Charlie played and where Teddy’s namesake, his grandpa Ted Smyth and two of Teddy’s uncles graduated. Our annual event will begin with a Catholic mass for the teams, families and friends to remember and pray for Teddy and many of our friends and families who have passed away. We will then enjoy the rugby match and conclude with a barbecue dinner/fundraiser on the field for all. We hope
at the dinner to present substantial checks to the organizations we seek to benefit. Here is a bit about SafeSpace and San Mateo County Chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
